Summer Reading

The Summer Reading Program which is made up of various activities focused on encouraging our children to continue reading through the summer.

The main focus of this committee is concentrated April through July. April and May are spent organizing all of the summer events, planning the theme, soliciting donors for prizes and recruiting volunteers for the Summer Reading activities. June & July are full of fun programs that PALS volunteers help lead and support, such as puppet shows, craft projects, parties and more.

The majority of the Summer Reading programs are during the summer in the mid to late afternoon and evening. A few activities will also be in the morning. The planning will take place on a flexible schedule that we will come up with together.

At least 5 committee members are needed who would be responsible for planning and organizing the events. However, there is room for LOTS of volunteers during the summer to help run the events. We need volunteers who can help with the following:

  • Organizing and decorating the library for the summer (May)
  • Stuffing summer reading packets with goodies and donations (May)
  • Stafifing the events (May through August)
  • Calling for donations and/or coupons from merchants for summer reading packets
  • Working the Summer Reading Finale (early August, evening)
