Be Part of PALS in 2010
Come kick off the New Year with PALS of the Vestavia Hills Public Library. Enjoy a casual evening out, have a glass of wine, meet new friends, and learn more about how you can become a vital part of helping the Children’s Department thrive in 2010. Our first meeting of the year will be held January 26th at 7:00 p.m. on the second floor of the library. This will be a relaxed, fun evening to learn more about PALS.
The New Year always brings fun new opportunities for PALS members, and this year it will also bring a new library. If your interest has been piqued each time you drive by the construction site of the new library, you’ll certainly want to attend to hear a representative from Brasfield and Gorrie give an update on the progress of the new library.
Perhaps you’re thinking, “I’d like to know a little bit more about PALS before I decide to attend.” PALS is a group of parents who help raise money to support the Children’s Library through a series of fundraisers, including Imagination Celebration. The money we raise provides books and materials for the Children’s Library, and it also funds programming like Family Nights, Summer Reading, and much, much more. Volunteer opportunities abound and vary widely. They include everything from serving pizza at family night, to updating our website, to helping set up for Imagination Celebration.
For those who decide they’d like to join PALS, there will be a business meeting the following week on February 9th at 6:00 p.m. on the second floor of the Vestavia Hills Public Library. We’ll discuss in detail opportunities and plans for the upcoming year. A dinner of pizza will be served, so we hope you will join us for another fun evening, while also discovering meaningful ways to help the Children’s Library.
New Year, New Opportunities, New Library. Won’t you come be a part of history in the making?

Help "Deck the Halls" of the Library
Santa needs your child's help spreading holiday cheer in the library this year. For a $1 donation, children will be given a construction paper ornament, which they can take home, decorate, and return to the children's department. Or, children may decorate the ornament at the library where there will be some craft supplies on hand. The ornament will then be used to "deck the halls" of the children's library. Imagine their excitement upon seeing the ornament with their name on it proudly displayed on the library walls this holiday season! Ornaments go on sale November 2nd and will continue to be sold through December.
Visit Santa's Workshop
Tuesday, Dec. 1 5:30-7:30
Let your child whisper his or her wish list to Santa, eat dinner and paint a holiday ornament from Painted By U. It's all happening Tuesday, December 1st from 5:30 until 7:30pm. It may be wintry outside, but it will be warm and cozy inside.
** Please note that as of 11/10, our location has changed. Same great party, bigger location. Everything will be now happening at the Dogwood Room at the Vestavia Civic Center. **
Santa will be there, ready to visit with the children and dinner will be served. Good news too - we originally thought he would have to leave early, but Santa will be able to join us until 7:30 after all. Ornaments are only $15 apiece and all proceeds benefit the Children's Library. Painted By U will collect and fire the children's ornaments and they will be ready to place on your holiday tree. All supplies are provided!

Call for Board Members
Are you interested in becoming more involved with PALS this coming year? Consider becoming one of our board members for 2010.
Board positions are served from January through December. We like to have a transition period of several months so that the new board members feel comfortable in their new roles, which is why we are soliciting interest in the positions now. We have a meeting coming up on Tuesday, November 10th at 7pm, and we would love to be able to discuss your interest at that time.
Many of your current board members have now served for 2 terms, and we are ready to step aside for new ideas and new contributors. However, we are always available for any questions you might have, either now or after you have begun your new role. This is an exciting time to be a part of the Vestavia Hills library as we construct our new Library in the Forest.
Select Committees to see more information about the position descriptions. If you would like to contact a current board member with questions, select Officers, then the person's name to send them an email. We welcome your interest.
